DAYTONA BEACH Alexey Lysich the developer of the new Hotel and Condo on A1A in Daytona Beach saw a dream come true. The countdown on his project continues at 629 days to completion. It going to be the first newly constructed beach-side hotel in Daytona Beach over twenty years and marks most expensive private development between the Halifax River and the Atlantic Ocean in the city’s history. Early this morning 650 concrete trucks began to roll back and forth over Seabreeze Bridge unloading thousands of metric tons of concrete for the foundation. It is expected the the pour will last until sometime on Monday. Traffic is being diverted and or will be delayed up and down the A1A corridor until they have completed the work.

August 3rd GRAND ISLE, La. — A tiny house sporting a painting of a blond, blue-tailed mermaid apparently drifted 200 miles (320 kilometers) from Florida to south of Louisiana. The Coast Guard released a photo of the floating dock found 180 miles (290 kilometers) south of Grand Isle, Louisiana. Petty Officer Travis Magee says several people have reported seeing it on Key West, Florida. A Coast Guard news release says it was reported to have broken free from its mooring without anyone aboard. The building is green with lavender trim. The side that would have faced land features a painting of the mermaid, a sea turtle and an octopus. Above the blue door on one end, a sign appears to include the word “shed.” Magee says there’s no report of anyone claiming ownership. It is reported that the driver of the vehicle, Christopher Whealen, was an employee at the Seabreeze Taphouse. It has not been confirmed whether he had been working or not prior to the incident. Witnesses reported he was heavily intoxicated. We have reached out to the owners of the Seabreeze Tap House for a statement. They have not yet responded. As more emerges about this tragedy the story is looking much worse. Code enforcement issues and violence due to over-served patrons is a plague. The cost to our community and its families is tremendous. Officially, Daytona’s PIO Lyda Longa has confirmed that Mr. Whealen has been questioned but is not yet in custody. Justin Gary's employer, Richard Kitt of the Daytona Taproom Group of Restaurants, is planning a memorial service and has been collecting donations for the family. The date for the service has not been determined. Anyone who would like to help Justin's family can send donations to the Tomoka Christian Church in Ormond Beach, where his funeral will be held later this week.
