The 25th anniversary of Biketoberfest in Daytona Beach according to most accounts was a huge success.
The magnitude of the event was championed by the thousands and thousands of incredible people who attended, from the local bikers to the world traveling enthusiasts the colorful array of Hundred Thousand Dollar Steel Horses paraded up and down the streets from Flagler to New Smyrna and roared down Daytona’s Main Street.
And by all estimates the local business community is reporting a nice uptick in revenue from the previous year.
If there was a slow down anywhere it was outside the Daytona area. We attribute this to the disasters both natural and man made.
Some of the normally jam packed motels off of Beach-side were less full and the parking lots had less trailers.
This event was about Bikers, with many of them now showing off their custom $100,000 machines that have front wheels bigger than a medium sized tractor.
And their were the occasional oddities such as the Nuns who dressed up and zoomed by flipping the crowd the bird.
For Behind Daytona this event was much more. It was what we are calling the real beginning of change in our city. It was evident and anyone we asked agreed.
Victory Tattoo opened after winning the up and down vote by the city a council, a huge win for the small business community.
We visited them on their opening night and store all you heard was the buzz of tattoo guns and the artists hard at work with congratulations and fist bumps throughout. They opened their doors to a rush of the throngs of Bikers getting the first Tattoo’s on Beach-side in Daytona Beach in decades. A Victory to be sure.
Then Jennifer Ellis the owner treated us to a second to none view of Main Street Daytona from the second floor balcony.
We ran into Amy Pyle a candidate for the 3rd district. Amy has been a champion for small business and beach-side redevelopment. This was a win for her efforts as well and proves she will be a tough person to beat in the coming election.
What an incredible site, thousands of people and from what we witnessed all enjoying the sights and sounds.
There is now a World Class Cigar store that just opened and Chrome Premium Cigars opened by George Merced is staying open this time all year round. George has the best Cigar brands available from Macanudo to Ashton if you enjoy a good Stogie one can be found here.
One incredibly awesome story was the one year successful run of Sunsetters, run by Brandon and Gerri Shoaf who had multiple acts on the deck.
They served up tons of BBQ Brisket Mac n Cheese and sold out of Oysters only to be bailed out by Riptides in Ormond.
Once again we witnessed small business owners helping each other out. That’s the real shit Behind Daytona.
With local model Elle Marie XOXO entertaining the bikers as they rode back and forth over the Main Street Bridge the crowds were large and steady and Behind Daytona covered it all.
On Beach Street there was a nice hustle and bustle with the Full Throttle crew and vendors but the main focus was definitely Main Street Daytona Beach.
With more live music than ever before the call of “MAKE SOME NOISE DAYTONA BEACH” was the beacon that you heard everywhere over and over again.
Local bands with growing followings such as Diesel headlined by Ronnie Rodriguez made appearances at multiple venues. We wondered how these guys don't lose their voices during these events but then again the are the Stars and this is their show.
Another hot spot for the national acts that roared on stages was Destination Daytona, Rossmeyer's Harley Davidson who had Jackyl and the Pat Travers Band perform. Great old school Rockers who still shine on stage.
Jesse James Dupree cut the cake with a chainsaw, celebrating the Radio Station 95.7 “The Hogs 21st anniversary and proceeded to throw it about the stage at band members and friends.
He then finished up, as he always does, with sawing a wooden bar stool in half and a shot from his shotgun mic stand.
Michael Ballard of Full Throttle in Sturgis made an appearance and was in town accompanied by M.C. Goat.
At Main Street Station there was Saving Abel who put on a blistering performance.
Just surreal as Scotty Austin the lead singer crushed it with “Addiction” and payed homage to our Veterans and Service men and women. The band has energy I haven't seen since I was at the first Van Halen appearances.
We also saw Leaving Eden the Bawdy Boys and Big Engine all huge hits with the crowds.
And standing apart was“NOVA REX” with local phenom Michael Makepeace and original member Kenny Wilkerson once again Glam Rock thrived on stage. What our photographer the great Karen Adams caught through her lens lives up to the best our country has to offer.

The Bank and Blues had Selwyn Birchwood and the Razorbacks and Biketoberfest favorites and Rockit Fly landed on stage at the Full Moon Saloon, finally escaping their orbit in Sanford.
On “The Roof” was performance Artist and Founder of the Art Army “PEREGO” and of course one of my favorite bands 5 Time Shag played to great crowds.
Thank you CVB Convention and the Daytona Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau, The Mayor Derrick Henry, The Daytona Beach City Commission, Volusia County Council and anyone involved the organization of this Anniversary Event should be proud it was a huge success.
We look forward to Bike Week and Biketoberfest in 2018
