By Jeff Stolowitz, Thursday May 8th May 2014 It was about 7 years ago I was introduced to Compass Box Scotch at a tasting which if I recall was somewhere in NJ. I was then the President of Marketing and Sales for The Alternative Press. My fascination of Scotch and Whiskey grew from there. Somewhere along the line I met Warren Bobrow who is an accomplished author and aficionado of "The Spirits" and followed his writings and photography it kept me yearning for more knowledge of my passion food and wine. I have been blogging about many things lately and was looking for an interesting subject when simultaneously Compass Box Whiskey and my friend and colleague Warren posted something on Facebook, Social Media does have its uses.... It occurred to me I should write about Compass Box's great success and a little of their history. A small independently owned company started in 2000 has spawned the release of some incredible Scotch Whiskeys over the years. Don't be confused they are blenders who craft and artfully combine their spirits for anyone to enjoy. While a small firm based in London they are a growing entity and you can now find them in many fine dining establishments across the world. To purchase any of their many fine wares visit them at www.CompassBoxwhiskey.com Peat Monster If you know what Peat is then this will enthrall you If you don't then it will educate you as to what it would be like to walk through Peat Bogs in the late part of fall. Earth and spice mix to create a balanced harmony. On the nose on the palette with an incredible long lasting but deviant finish. This is a World Whiskey Award Winner and it promises what it preaches and is definitely a Peat Monster Spice Tree Oak and Richness with a beautiful range of spices on the nose round this well crafted Malt Whiskey. The complexity of this blend actually makes it simple to drink and mixed with a few drops of water brings out a hint of citrus reminding one of the Islands. Without a doubt a Pirate Captains dream to drink while sailing or enjoying a fire beachside. Great King Artists Blend Fruit, Fresh cut Grass a hearty whiff of Vanilla and you have and Artists Blend. While there is a toastyness reminiscent of coffee it is unusually satisfying and exotic. If you can find it hold on to it this a rare gem. This is the Hamptons Last of the Giant Night Clubs. For the Past few years an entrepreneur and native of Hampton Bays Patrick McCormack has been leasing space from the Beach Bar to craft a weekend culinary powerhouse in the Hamptons. For the 2nd year they feature John Heaney as the Chef and though the past Chef's including Jeff Stolowitz, Mark Padavan, and Brain Mazzio may be gone the influence remains. This summer is sure to be a grand success with the return of Jessica and Megan, Chris and other faithful who will surprise you with specials and incredible vibes.
