By Jeff Stolowitz This past weekend we visited Rok Bar in Daytona and were left speechless as we watched the main act perform. And 'perform' is the main word there. The promotional You Tube Video speaks for itself. "DIDGES CHRIST" To get an idea of what to expect at a Didges Christ show, just have a read from their home page: "Citizens of Planet Earth! The Assimilation has begun! Even one of your archaic historical publications called Modern Drummer has what you call and [sic] article on Obishawnkenobi from the planet groK! Click Here to read it!" Oh, they dress like Predators too. As for Rok Bar, local Chris Vorhees has created a great venue. Consistently lining up a flow of great talent from Progressive Rock to Hip Hop to trans-formative bands like Didges Christ. New sound, awesome lighting, and a great staff make it the best place for live music in Daytona. August proves to be another explosive month of shows. You can see their schedule here or visit the official site below. The Rok Bar 308 Seabreeze Blvd Daytona Beach, Fl 32118 386 679-6265 By Jeff Stolowitz
Daytona Beach Miss Intent opens at the new Rock of Indigo Lakes a new concert venue in Daytona Beach. Band members Missy Ten, the venerable virtuoso Mark Wood on Guitar, Chris Seymour on Bass, and the back beat by Patrick Roderick, didn't miss a note. While Steve Boone, a Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Bass player from the 1960’s era band The Lovin' Spoonful, enjoyed the festivities, the music of Miss Intent entertained everyone. The opening, promoted by Awake Late and most notably employee Amy Powers , was outstanding. The concert venue will host music of all kinds said Tommy Curiale. Acts will perform on an elevated platform overlooking the golf course facing West where gorgeous sunsets greet concert-goers. Curiale, former drummer for the Johnny Winter Band, has a vision to build a stage at the end of the golf range and have outdoor concerts with grass seating. An interesting mix of golf and a concert venue Behind Daytona. For more information about upcoming events at Rock of Indigo, visit their home page. By Jeff Stolowitz
Boogie to Memphis at the Bank and Blues in Daytona was “Fantastic” said one attendee. Our ticket winners Stacie Jenkins Garafano and Kim M. Garafano had broad smiles as they kicked back and enjoyed the show. Blown away was an understatement, as wind blew and a mid summer thunderstorm threatened to bring down the house, the storm did the Floridian roar, but all we heard was the sound of timeless blues. The winner was Souliz. This is their second time heading to Memphis to compete for the title of international Blues artist of the year. They were a reminder of how America is awesome. The name of the band reflects how you feel when you listen to them play. Sugar and Spice a 15 year old guitar phenom “Hurricane”, Tony Fullwood an incredible rythmic Bass player and original member and the rest of the band just simply stole the show. Blues ruled the day but the food being dished out by “ODB” the famous wrestler from TNA Wrestling at her food truck Meat and Greet was second to none. Pork u Nacho's and Pick Yo Meat Rice Bowls, can I have some more please. We Congratulate the artists that performed and look forward to sponsoring the event and supporting Volusia County Blues Society next year. Performing in the Challenge
